Honourable Judges of the apex Court,

Mr. Suleman Aslam Butt learned Attorney General of Pakistan,

Ladies and gentlemen.

اسلام و علیکم

We are here to pay tribute to Justice Mamoon Kazi former Judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan for the services rendered by him as a member of legal profession and more particularly as a Judge of this Honourable Court. He breathed his last on April 2, 2014.

انا للہ و انا الیہ رجعون

Coming from the family of intellectuals Justice Mamoon knew the art of maintaining meaningful performance in dispensation of Justice and earning respect and honour through his rare affection for Bench and Bar.

Justice Mamoon Kazi was elevated to Sindh High Court on July, 29th 1985. He became the Chief Justice of Sindh High Court on April 15th 1996. On November 4th, 1997 he was elevated to sit in the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

After General Pervaiz Musharraf seized power in October, 1999, Justice Memoon Kazi was amongst five judges who refused to take office under the First Provisional Constitutional Order, 2000 and did not take Oath under Musharraf PCO of year 2000 and preferred to go home. Since his retirement, Kazi led a quiet life in Karachi. He played an active role in judiciary and legal fraternity's struggle against the second PCO imposed by Musharraf on November 3, 2007 and urged the political parties to undertake that would not validate the Constitutional amendment made since November 3, 2007 PCO after being elected for the parliament.

Being judge, Kazi believed in dispensation of justice at all costs without being clogged by the procedural technicalities. His decisions reflect that he has always made an effort to decide the cases on merit while adhering to the fundamental requirements of due process in accordance with the Constitution and Law.

We the lawyers are unanimous in our view that Mamoon Kazi was one amongst best jurists and judges in the country.

Besides his knowledge and command in law he was an honest, upright and dignified person.

This man of honour passed away giving us a reminder that death is divinely willed ultimate reality and when it arrives there is no escape to it. All humans have a transient existence, a short stay and sooner or later has to say goodbye to this world. However, as a Muslim it is our belief that death is not end of every thing, it is only the beginning of another life—the eternal life.

At this sad moment, I, on my own behalf and on behalf of my colleagues convey our heartfelt condolence to Mrs.Mamoon Kazi, children and other members of bereaved family.

By virtue of uprightness and character the name of Justice Mamoon Kazi will be written with everlasting ink on the pages of history of those who always held their heads high.

May Allah Almighty ease Safar-e-Akhrat of Justice Mamoon Kazi, make his grave a part of gardens of paradise and shower his countless blessings upon him. May Almighty Allah give courage and patience to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss.

آمین
