SUGGESTED BAR VOCATIONAL COURSE (BVC) CURRICULUM FOR NEW ENTRANTS

        First BVC was held at PBC from 16.09.2022 to 22.10.2022 in collaboration of the Legal Education Committee and Seminar & Symposium Committees of the Punjab Bar Council.

        BVC is now a mandatory requirement for obtaining licence to practice.

Week One

Day 1:    Ethics, Licensing and Lawyers Rights and Obligations

Introduction to rules and traditions of etiquette of the bar and professional life. Chambers: What is expected of an associate; Seniors; Associates; Munshis and office staff

Overview of Legal System of Pakistan (2 hours)

Introduction to Basic Principles of Civil Law (Supported by Case Law) (2 hours)

Types of Civil Courts, Jurisdiction, Types of Cases in Civil Litigation i.e. Tort claims, Breach of Contract Claims, Equitable Claims (description of maxim), Landlord – Tenant issues, Disputes arising of family affairs. How a civil suit is filed, Parties to the Suit, Necessary documents to file the civil suit. Valuation of Suit, Sample of a plaint.

Stages of Civil Suit, Plaint, Written Statement, Framing of issues, Recording of evidence (Examination-in-Chief), Cross Examination, Recording of evidence through commissions, Principles of appreciation of evidence, Arguments, Judgment & Decree.

Appeal/Review/Revision/Writ petition (2 hours)

Matters falling within the ambit of Appeal/Review/ Revision/writ petition, Appeal in Detail, Procedure of Appeal, Kinds of Appeal, Revision, Procedure of Revision, Review, scope of writ petition & its jurisdiction, Procedure to file Review, Draft petitions will also be examined.

The sessions will be in three small group sessions (for practical exercise)

1.        One group will file plaint and accompanying documents

2.        second group will be defendant,

3.   third group will argue the case before a stand-in judge.
